Students in sixth grade wrapped up their creation/origin stories this week. They each had delightfully creative approaches to the origins of a number of things. They used their class time well, demonstrating care for each other in providing peer feedback and suggestions. 

Seventh and eighth grade students wrapped up a short project in which they had some choices. The first was a choice between a creative story from the perspective of the explorers in the Age of Discovery or the indigenous people who interacted with the Europeans upon their arrival. Their stories were exceptionally creative and demonstrated a lot of empathy and understanding of the time. Secondly, students could elect to create a poster based on their research around the Renaissance and Age of Discovery – these are now posted on the classroom wall as a resource for the rest of the semester. Their graphic design skills using Canva are ever improving! 

We took some time yesterday in all middle school classes to discuss the anniversary of 9/11. Students engaged with an oral history of a survivor of the Twin Towers, and we looked at photos from the day. The topic presented a helpful time to discuss the importance of primary sources and memory.
