Sixth grade students have engaged in great discussions about agricultural surplus and moving to a city environment from the previous hunter/gatherer society. We’ve learned lots of great vocabulary, including division of labor and ziggurats, and students continue to practice their critical thinking as they engage in discussion. We’re also regularly practicing our skills with the timeline, ensuring that all students are familiar with BCE/BC and CE/AD when we look at different dates. This class will have a quiz next week to demonstrate their learning.

Seventh and eighth grade students wrapped up their first unit of study with a quiz on Wednesday that included some geography practice. This quiz was essay-based, asking students to make arguments using evidence learned in class. They did an impressive job demonstrating their knowledge, and many are committed to working more diligently to take notes in future classes.

Students in culinary arts have continued to practice their skills of planning, recipe reading, and focus. This week our student-led recipes included Cloud Bread (which turned out to be fairly complex, as it utilized meringue) and chai vanilla cupcakes, which had a multitude of ingredients and asked students to pay close attention to detail. Next week, we’re diving in to the advanced skills required to make macarons, and we’ll be practicing our skills with a kitchen scale and the metric system.
