Celebrating Día de los Muertos

Día de los Muertos, or Day of the Dead, is a vibrant and meaningful celebration that honors and remembers our loved ones who have passed away. This year, we are excited to immerse ourselves in the history and traditions of this beautiful holiday through various engaging activities!

Virtual Field Trips
We will embark on virtual field trips using Google Earth to explore the rich cultural significance of Día de los Muertos. These trips will allow us to visit altars, learn about traditional customs and foods, and understand the symbolism behind the decorations and offerings that families create to honor their ancestors. 🌎

Día de los Muertos Culture Projects
Students have been working on creating culture projects that showcase their understanding of Día de los Muertos. Whether it’s a presentation on the migration of Monarch butterflies, an authentic recipe book, or a creative art piece, this is a chance to express personal interpretations of this tradition and share them with classmates. 🎨🦋

Decorating Sugar Skulls
One of the most fun activities is decorating sugar skulls! Students can unleash their creativity by designing their own colorful skulls, which are an iconic symbol of the celebration. This hands-on experience will deepen our appreciation for the artistry involved in Día de los Muertos celebrations. 💀🍬

School-Wide Ofrenda
Don’t forget to bring your items for the school-wide ofrenda this week! An ofrenda is an altar where families place photographs, favorite foods, and mementos of their loved ones. This collective effort will help us create a meaningful space to honor those who have passed and reflect on their legacy. 🕯️🌼 🖼️

Dress in Día de los Muertos T-Shirts
Finally, on Friday, November 1st, we invite everyone to wear Día de los Muertos t-shirts as a show of unity in our school community. Let’s celebrate together and embrace the colorful traditions of this important holiday! 👕

Join us in this exciting journey as we learn, create, and celebrate the beautiful traditions of Día de los Muertos!
