6th Grade Ecology
Students have completed their assessment on identifying over 30 plant species in the backyard! Now they prepare for their first science presentation, presenting what information they have found on the native plant of their choice.
7th and 8th Grade Physical Science
Students are learning how to graph simple, one-dimensional motion. This includes calculating the slope of a simple position vs time graph, and finding out how velocity differs from speed. How do we use a graph that only shows position and time to find new values like velocity and even acceleration? What are the components of an object’s motion that can be described mathematically?
STEM
TREBUCHET!! We have acquired the lumber to build a large trebuchet. Students have graded the wood and chosen a few 8-foot-long boards that may make good trebuchet arms. We need to see how the wood looks in a few days to be sure it will have the stability we need. We are basing our design on the modern “floating-arm trebuchet” design that has become popular among siege engine enthusiasts.
