6th Grade Ecology
Experimental design is the topic at hand in 6th-grade ecology. Students are learning to identify independent and dependent variables when making observations of simple phenomena and using these to craft experimental questions and hypotheses. These are the first steps in designing meaningful experiments.
7th and 8th Grade Physical Science
Students have completed a unit on interpreting motion graphs and are now moving on to measurements and methods. How can you get a reasonably accurate estimate of the height of a tall tree using sticks, pans of water, and our knowledge of right triangles? Are these methods reliable? How can we refine these methods to make them work better? Students will examine how measurements are made, how we can make reasonable estimates of things not directly measurable, and how we can improve our accuracy and precision through refinement of methods.
STEM
Students have been exploring Blender software, utilizing particle systems, basic camera motions, textures, and lighting to build scenes. Trebuchet work has slowed for the moment, but continues as we size up components to be fitted to the arm and frame.
