Sixth grade students have formed three groups to study the ancient river civilizations found in China, India, and Egypt. As a whole group, we identified areas they should research to best understand their civilization, providing them guidance in their search. This project tasks them with progressing their reading comprehension, research, collaboration, communication, and presentation skills. Yesterday, we discussed various components of empire and identified several examples from across history, which will prove useful in their projects. As a group, they continue to progress in their discussion skills!

Seventh grade students completed their research project and presentation examining the New England, Middle, and Southern colonies in small groups. Each team came up with a creative element to share with their classmates, and it was so fun to see their ideas come to life! Our New England group made shortbread “biscuits” and tea to share, and they used our classroom set of teacups and saucers to serve their peers. Another group made an interactive poster, rich with information for other classes to explore. Their research and presentation skills continue to progress and demonstrate excellence.

Eighth grade students are preparing for an assessment which will take place tomorrow morning. This test will see them pulling together all of their learning from the first quarter and demonstrating their knowledge and argumentation skills. They’re digging in and practicing strong study skills, knowing that this is an essay-based exam. We even broke out highlighters to start finding key words in their notes!
