Sixth, seventh, and eighth grade students have been reading different books respective to their class. However, a common thread connects them – and us – all: the role of memories. As we finish our class novels, we will examine characters’ flaws and faults, the books’ themes, and the role literature has in conveying and preserving those themes. So far, these ideas have been introduced with small, in-class projects. We will build on these as we move toward a more elaborate and researched analysis of the books.

To engage with your student, you could ask them: 

• the role memory plays in the book their class is reading, and
• what they think is the point/theme of the book.
