ELA Extra Credit

We are working on our final essay of the semester that includes analyzing elements of fiction in relation to one of the messages in the novel their class read in November. An outline guide/graphic organizer was provided to help organize and structure their thoughts and research. As we worked on those in class, we discussed thesis statements and how to integrate research to help prove their points. They received feedback from their peers to practice getting and receiving constructive criticism as well as the revision process for drafts.

To engage with your student, you could ask them:

  • which element(s) they are writing about;
  • which message from the book they are writing about;
  • to glance at their graphic organizer; and
  • the extra credit assignment proposed on Wednesday/Thursday.
