Becoming Critical Researchers

Students were challenged to consider how easy it is to present a lie as a fact after submitting their Two Truths and a Lie essay. Alas, if we cannot trust everything we see, hear, and watch, what should we do? This will be our guiding question for this research-based, informational writing unit. We will learn how to evaluate sources and become critical consumers/producers of information as we research topics that are a mix of self-selected based on interest and local, current events.

Additionally, by the end of this week, students should have selected their first book report novel.

To engage with your student, you could ask them:

  • what are issues surrounding misinformation;
  • how can they avoid sharing misinformation;
  • what book they are reading for their first book report; or
  • what LAD Fair categories they are thinking about entering.
