The High School Language Arts class is continuing their reading of “1984” by George Orwell. This will most likely be the last unit they explore this year so I’m hoping to get the most out of it! To fuel class discussion and thoughts surrounding the book, the students have been given class time to complete a series of in depth and multi-faceted questions relating to the context of the novel. The vast majority of the reading is to be completed at home with class time allotted for working on close reading questions when I’m available to help them and class discussion. This unit has been met with excitement from the students, but those end of the year feelings may be creeping in. Rest assured, if they say they have nothing to do, chances are they have either questions or a reading due soon. The discussions thus far have been insightful! I’m hoping that they are able to finish strong with the encouragement of teachers and parents. They are finding the themes of the novel incredibly interesting and I’m hoping that curiosity sees them through to the end of what has proven to be a difficult yet productive year in Language Arts!
