Finishing up the year with Poetry in Language Arts

6th, 7th, and 8th grade has worked diligently over the past few weeks on poetry scansion.  This is not an easy subject, and there were quite a few crossed eyes the first day, but they’ve really impressed me with their diligence in grasping this advanced concept.  Poetry scansion is an important part of any literary curriculum and getting it introduced early can only benefit them as they engage with more difficult material, such as Shakespeare, in the future!  The resistance was light and once they began to grasp the concepts, they’ve had a lot of fun with it! Plus I think they feel smart which is always a plus! It definitely won’t be the last time we cover this topic, but I feel that they are ending the year strong by mastering one of the more taxing concepts in poetry and literary expression.
