Math Fundamentals – This week sixth grade mathematicians began working with ratios and explored the concept of equivalent ratios. Ratios show up all the time in everyday life! We focused on how equivalent ratios create the same color of paint in different amounts and allow us to make recipes that taste the same, even if a smaller or larger batch is needed.
Integrated Math – Integrated Math students have been working on scale copies. They worked to identify scale copies, fill in missing measurements in scaled copies, and determine scale factor. In the past week, they completed an understanding check and an activity where they observed that diagonals of scaled rectangles line up with each other. Here is an overview of what we will be working on for this unit.
Algebra 1 – Algebra 1 students have moved into a unit about equations. They reviewed what they had already studied in previous classes and are now applying it to determine if equations are equivalent. The two methods we have discussed so far are manipulating the equations to make them match and finding the solution and see if it works for both equations. Here is an overview of what we will be working on in this unit.
Geometry – In geometry, students practiced constructing precise designs and writing accurate instructions for a classmate to recreate it. Then we moved into our second unit. In unit 2, we will be focusing on congruence, especially in triangles. Proofs will also become a focus as students experiment with theorems and use them to justify conjectures.
