Middle School Mathematics

Math Fundamentals – Sixth grade continues to solve problems involving ratio and rate. On Friday we took time to record and reflect on our progress throughout the year so far. Students have demonstrated knowledge and understanding across nine different mathematical standards.

Integrated Math – Integrated Math students are applying what they have learned about similarity and dilation to “meet slope”. Similar right triangles along the same diagonal line have the same slope. Slope is the ratio of vertical distance divided by horizontal distance on a coordinate grid. Students will use this knowledge next week as they begin to look at graphs and equations of lines.

Algebra I – Algebra 1 students are looking into the relationship between equations and graphs and what information each tells us within the context of specific scenarios. In solving equations for “y”, students discovered that slope and the y-intercept can be seen in an equation. Applying this knowledge as well as the skills of manipulating and solving equations will be valuable as they move into a study of systems of equations.

Geometry – In geometry we wrapped up our triangle proofs and are using them, in combination with other theorems and definitions, to turn conjectures into proofs involving quadrilaterals. We also took time to look at our learning progress so far this year.  We will be closing up our unit on congruence soon and will head into working with similarity.
