This Week in Language Arts

Middle School went head to head as they presented on their randomly assigned topics. They were given specific parameters about what and how to present, what they were allowed to use, and for what length of time they should present. Presenting and public speaking is a huge component of the curriculum at The Summit and is an incredibly important part of life both in higher education and in business. Learning appropriate presentation skills early can serve students well both here and beyond. In addition, this assignment helped to establish a baseline against which future presentations can be measured. Almost all the presentations were practiced, polished, and prepared and even the ones who weren’t quite up to the challenge received constructive feedback that they can implement in future projects. Upon conclusion of the presentations, a reflection assignment will help to round out this unit as we begin to move beyond composition and public speaking and begin short story units next week.
