Angles and Triangles

First grade students are busy identifying angles and triangles.  We have learned that right angles make a square corner measuring 90 degrees, obtuse angles are greater than 90 degrees, and acute angles are less than 90 degrees.  Using a straight edge, students drew examples of each angle.  Tapping into our kinesthetic learning style, we have used our arms and our bodies to make each of these angles.  Ask your child to show you these motions as well as points, lines, rays, and line segments.  Students have also played games online to identify angles and determine if two given angles are congruent. We are classifying triangles as right, equilateral, isosceles, or scalene.  First graders created each of these using toothpicks and geoboards.
