Safety First

“Safety first” is a motto of our first grade class. From the start of the school year, students have learned about safety practices at school both on the playground and in our classroom.  This week, we’ve expanded our understanding by discussing safety practices at home and in the community.  We are not only identifying safety practices, but symbols as well.  Tying this to our ongoing city project, students learned about signs found on streets, signs about driving carefully, construction signs, make way for animal signs, danger signs, don’t do it signs, keep it clean signs, neighborhood signs, indoor and outdoor signs, and business signs.  They enjoyed creating examples of many of these, which will be placed in our city.  Encourage your child to look for signs in your neighborhood and on your way to and from school this week.
