Weather

Through the read aloud Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs, we began our study of weather.  Reviewing scientific inquiry introduced first trimester, students went outdoors to make observations about the weather.  Filling in a graphic organizer, first graders used all of their senses to make observations about the weather.  In addition to completing various weather related experiments, this trimester, we will graph the weather and record the temperature daily.

Judi Barrett’s book also helped us to launch our next writing project.  First, students each created a list of twenty interesting adjectives that could be used to describe food.  Then, they came up with 3 food nouns for each breakfast, lunch, and dinner.  Combining these, students began a graphic organizer in which they will tell a story that describes a three course meal that could fall from the sky.
