Numbers

Students have worked diligently over the past couple of months to increase their number knowledge .  Through numerous games and online resources, first graders have engaged in counting activities, writing numerals, spelling number words, sequencing numbers, determining part-whole relationships, discovering place value relationship, and solving number patterns.  Please look to your child’s Friday folder for the most recently completed Singapore math packet, which shows some examples of how students are working with numbers.  Next, we will work further with addition and subtraction practicing familiar strategies (zero facts, counting on or back, doubles, near doubles), introducing new strategies (make a ten, fast tens, runaway ones) building mental math and problem solving skills.
