This week in spelling and word work first graders will be learning about suffix ed. We will discuss how when something happened in the past you usually add ed to the action word or verb. When you add suffix ed, it can be pronounced in different ways. All of our words this week will have the /id/ sound. As we will point out, the root word ends in a t or d blend, and adding suffix ed will add another syllable. For example, the root word melt is one syllable and ends in t. To make it past tense add suffix ed, and it becomes a two syllable word, melted.
My, How They’ve Grown!!
