Great Big Idaho Potato and the World’s Largest Fork

Today, first grade students walked next door to see the Great Big Idaho Potato Truck at the World’s Largest Fork.  Students enjoyed viewing the truck, the fork, the potato, and posing for a few pictures.  Integrating our learning, we tied many of our centers today to the potato, which of course is a natural resource.  During read aloud, students enjoyed listening to the story One Potato, Two Potato by Cynthia Defelice.  After listening, they were asked to write two sentences about each the beginning, the middle, and the end of the story.  Along with our story, which introduced doubling as the O’Grady’s magic pot doubled whatever was put inside, students worked in pairs practicing doubles facts. We especially enjoyed sharing a special potato snack!
