Groundhog Day

Yesterday, we began the KY3 Weather School contest.  In doing so, we viewed and read weather forecasts on KY3 and the Weather Channel.  While both forecasts predicted the same high, we found out that the predicted low differed by ten degrees. Students determined that we could split the difference for our prediction.

In focusing on weather, students completed several activities relating to Groundhog Day.  They cut, assembled, and read Groundhog Day books, and then answered questions about their reading.  Students put Groundhog Day words in abc order and unscrambled misspelled words.  Introducing fact and opinion, first graders partnered up to generate and sort statements about Groundhog Day.  This was a difficult task and something will continue to practice throughout the school year.
