The Night Before First Grade

First grade kicked off the school year by reading aloud books about first grade, the first day of school, and good behavior.  Students also completed several get to know you activities and learned important classroom procedures and routines.  After reading aloud The Night Before First Grade, students discussed, wrote, and drew about how they felt the night before first grade. Compiling our writing, we are creating our very first class book.   In centers, students read books with a back to school theme, practiced numeral writing by filling in a blank hundred chart, worked with unifix cubes and pattern blocks, and began daily calendar math routines.  We went to music, art, and of course recess.  Tomorrow, we look forward to our first day of PE andSpanish.  It was an excellent start to a new school year!
