Writing Process

First grade students are actively engaged in the writing process and at various stages for current writing pieces.  For our purposes, we will be utilizing the following sequence:  brainstorming, prewriting, drafting, sharing, editing, and publishing.   More formal or focused writing projects throughout the year will each incorporate these steps of the writing process.  So for example, brief written responses and journal activities, will involve some of these steps, where as larger projects such as our current planet reports, Johnny Appleseed writing, and Christopher Columbus writing will include each step.  Recent projects emphasizing the writing process include our moon acrostic poems and moon visit writing, which are on display in the hallway just outside of our classroom.
