Thomas Edison

Yesterday, first grade students began studying our next inventor, Thomas Alva Edison.   Once again we shared a David Adler book, A Picture Book of Thomas Alva Edison, as a biographical introduction.  Then, after discussing his many accomplishments, students were tasked with imagining what life would be like without his many inventions.  After partner reading self-selected books on Edison, students began a writing project.  Some chose to write a chronological narrative about Edison, while others opted to write poems about either Edison or one of his inventions. Thomas Edison serves as yet another source of inspiration for students to ask questions, experiment to find answers, persevere through setbacks, and never stop learning new things.
