Spelling

Today, we started our weekly spelling routine.  This began by introducing our first weekly pattern, CVC words.  CVC words all have a short vowel sound and follow the pattern of consonant vowel consonant.  After reviewing short vowel sounds, students brainstormed CVC words.  Students learned how to make a numbered list and then selected ten words to comprise an individual spelling list.  Students choose two of each short a, e, i, o, and u.

First graders’ spelling words will be kept in the yellow spelling folder. This folder should stay in your child’s backpack to come to and from school each day as we will be using these words, and others fitting the CVC pattern, during spelling and word work centers.   Our first partner spelling assessment will be Friday.
