1st Day of 1st Grade

We had an amazing first day in first grade!  Students quickly settled into our morning work activity followed by several get to know you games.  We enjoyed welcoming new friends and learning about one another.  We read aloud several books about being first graders, including First Grade Jitters and The Night Before First Grade, and we did a few brief writing activities.  We went to music and Spanish, had lunch on the patio, and played on the playground.  This afternoon, we were joined by the 5th grade class, who helped us complete a writing activity and begin working on our very first class book. To do so, we read aloud a children’s classic, The Important Book.  After reading, students worked with their buddies to record important information about themselves.  With the help of the 5th graders, we were even able to connect to the Internet, set up our Summit usernames and passwords, and bookmark the student links page.  First graders are eager to begin using their computers in class.  We’re looking forward to another great day tomorrow!
