The Desert

Over the past week, we learned about our next biome, the desert.  Desert areas are areas of dry land with special plants and animals that can survive without much water.  An area that gets less than 10 inches of rainfall per year is considered a desert.  Desert biomes are found on every continent in the world and they cover one fifth of the land on Earth. We studied the Sahara Desert, our world’s largest hot desert, and Antarctica, the world’s largest desert! We also closely studied animal and plant adaptations.  We did many activities this week to go along with our desert theme! We wrapped up our day on Friday by creating our own cacti and writing a paragraph of choice about one of the topics we learned this week about cacti! The students chose to write about adaptations cacti make to survive in the desert or about animals that live in cacti!  Cacti and paragraphs will be displayed outside the classroom so be sure to check out your kiddos hard work!
