Multisensory learning is a way of learning that engages more than one sense at a time. This type of learning aims to incorporate as many senses as possible to provide students the opportunity to engage with material in many ways. Multisensory learning includes the traditional five senses (taste, smell, touch, sight, and hearing) as well as movement.
Today, first graders used multisensory learning to practice phonics at teacher table! We listened to a sound, spelled it with our finger in “instant snow” and then said the sound aloud. The instant snow was such a fun sensory experience and helped us practice the phonetic patterns that we have learned this year during our spelling program. We practiced vowels, blends, digraphs and the FLoSS Rule (this week’s spelling pattern).
This afternoon, first graders will be learning the steps of the water cycle. After we learn the steps and draw them, we will sing and dance along to the Water Cycle Song from GoNoodle. The song is catchy and fun, and incorporates movement and music into our learning. Click the video below to watch the song and try not to get it stuck in your head! 🙂
