Spreading Love in First Grade: Happy Valentines Day!

Valentine’s Day in our first-grade class was a blast! We had so much fun celebrating love and friendship together.

Our classroom was buzzing with excitement in the morning as students brought in their valentine boxes and cards and dressed in red and pink! We started out our day with a Valentines freeze dance game. Next, we gathered on the carpet for a special Valentine storytime. We read “The Biggest Valentine Ever” by Steven Kroll. This delightful tale follows two adorable mice, Clayton and Desmond, as they work together to create the grandest valentine ever seen. It’s a story that beautifully illustrates the joy of collaboration and the power of friendship. It is also a part of a series of other books that we have read by Steven Kroll including “The Biggest Pumpkin Ever” and “The Biggest Snowman Ever”.

After that, we got crafty! Each of us made our own special valentine cards, bags and boxes. We used markers, special stickers, paper lace hearts, felt and lots of love to create them. It was fun to see everyone’s creativity and so special to watch the first graders make something for the friends and family members that they care so much about! Some students even worked together with friends to make a Valentine, just like Clayton and Desmond from the story. We talked about how important it is to show our loved ones that we care. First graders pointed out that making someone else happy can make you feel happy, too!

The best part of the day was when we got to exchange our valentine cards. Students gave cards to all of their friends in our class, and we had a special treat, too! Sharing valentines with friends brought lots of smiles to our classroom! Valentine’s Day isn’t just about candy and cards. It’s also about showing kindness and making our friends feel special. We had a great time spreading love in our classroom, and it’s something we’ll remember for a long time.
