Throughout the last trimester, first graders worked with a partner to research a specific Native American tribe. They used digital and print resources including books, informational videos, and primary sources to gather information about their selected tribe. After gathering research, students worked together with their partner to consolidate their research into full sentences, checking for correct punctuation, capitalization and spelling. After revising their writing, partners created a poster, illustrations, and an oral presentation to share at our celebrations. At home, students worked with their families to create a model artifact from their tribe. When we visited the Springfield History Museum on the Square last week, first graders were excited to share some facts and learn even more about the tribes they had researched!
We hosted the First Grade Museum of Native American Culture for our trimester 2 celebration on Friday afternoon. Students practiced their public speaking and shared about all of their incredible research and projects from home. We are so thankful to have such wonderful families to visit and support first graders’ learning! Students did such a nice job presenting, and we all greatly enjoyed visiting the exhibits. Nice work, first graders!
